The Passenger in Difficult Labor

, M.D.
Pages 109-114 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Abnormal labor may result from the size, presentation or position of the passenger in the process of parturition. Fetal size seems more important than either contracted pelvis or uterine inertia as a cause of dystocia. Analyses of two studies of difficult labor indicate the need for careful and judicious liberalization of the use of cesarean section to improve the perinatal survival rate.
