Diet and Coronary Artery Disease

Abstract

Coronary artery disease occurs much more often in persons with elevated serum lipid levels than in normolipemic persons. Fat and cholesterol are not the only dietary factors that influence serum lipid levels. Investigations indicate that carbohydrate and animal protein also are implicated. Dietary measures alone often effect improvement in the serum lipid pattern. When the optimal dietary pattern has been established, concomitant drug therapy may be beneficial.
