How I Treat Atopic Dermatitis Beyond Childhood

, M.D.
Pages A-124-A-126 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Atopic dermatitis in adults often responds to treatment with lubricating creams as well as topical steroids and antibiotics. Environmental control and use of bath oils and soap substitutes are often helpful. Hypnotics and aspirin usually suppress pruritus. Systemic steroids should be avoided except in severe acute cases. The value of psychotherapy as an adjunct to medical treatment should not be overlooked.
