Abstract

A safe, simple and effective method of inducing sputum utilizes a solution of saline and propylene glycol that is heated and nebulized and then breathed by the patient. This method produces sputum satisfactory for cytologic tests in nearly all patients. It is especially valuable for diagnosis in individuals with suspected neoplastic and infectious disorders.
