Abstract

In elderly persons, liver size decreases but function changes little. Jaundice is more likely to be due to extrahepatic obstruction; drug cholestasis, congestive hepatomegaly and cholangitis also occur more often than in younger persons. In most patients, liver scan, needle biopsy, blood tests and observation will disclose the diagnosis.
