Surgery in Institutions for the Mentally Retarded

Abstract

Three of four patients in institutions for the mentally retarded have significant medical problems. Surgeons who care for such patients are often called on to reduce fractures, correct deformities, repair hernias, perform orchiopexies, remove ingested or aspirated foreign bodies, and carry out other procedures.
