Abstract

The family physician must assume major responsibility for early detection of an abdominal aneurysm. Suggestive diagnostic signs include a pulsating abdominal mass, accompanying back pain, and an increase in the size of the mass during a brief period of observation. Treatment consists of excision of the mass and prosthetic replacement.
