Abstract

Large doses of contrast medium in intravenous pyelography are well tolerated by most patients, eliminate the need for ureteral compression, and greatly improve the quality of pyelograms. This article describes how to prepare the patient, inject the contrast medium, make the films, and handle adverse reactions in this procedure. In subsequent issues interpretation of results and special problems in intravenous pyelography in children will be discussed.
