Abstract

This discussion examines the factual basis for the question posed in the title. When a patient has diabetes, he has a greater risk of having coronary disease than a nondiabetic. Also, patients who survive myocardial infarctions have a high prevalence of impaired glucose tolerance. Vigorous treatment of diabetes should reduce the possibility of coronary artery disease.
