Abstract

Hot, humid weather burdens the heart. Under conditions of thermal stress, normal persons' cardiac output increases significantly. In sick persons, cardiac output increases less but ventricular pressures are greater. When these patients have cardiovascular disease, a humid and hot environment can precipitate heart failure or myocardial infarction.
