Abstract

Carbenoxolone, the ulcer remedy developed from licorice, seems to accelerate the healing of gastric ulcer by stimulating mucus secretion. In clinical trials, results have been better in ambulant than in hospitalized patients. Thiazide diuretics usually will control side effects. Trials of the drug in duodenal ulcer, using a special capsule, suggest benefit.
