Clinical Manifestations of Esophagitis

Abstract

Most patients with esophagitis have substernal discomfort or pain, swallow with difficulty, or experience pain while swallowing. Although the causes can vary from lye ingestion to moniliasis, most esophagitis probably occurs when acid peptic juice refluxes. Esophagoscopy, radiographic studies, manometry and biopsy all have their place in diagnosis, but perhaps biopsy should be used more often.
