Abstract

At the Cincinnati Veterans Administration Hospital, physicians treated 22 Vietnam veterans for malaria in a 16 month period. Most of the patients had chills, fever and headache, and all had a Plasmodium vivax infection. Chloroquine phosphate given for the first three days, followed by a combination tablet of primaquine and chloroquine given once weekly for eight weeks, was an effective treatment.
