Abstract
To differentiate discrete focal neocortical seizures from multifocal and generalized seizures and from those occurring as part of a diffuse process, careful correlation of the entire history, physical examination, and laboratory studies is necessary. The choice of treatment depends on the cause. Early surgical intervention is generally indicated in seizures due to mass lesions. In those due to focal atrophy, gliosis or unknown causes, anticonvulsant therapy should be used.
