Abstract

Fourteen patients with septic arthritis superimposed on a variety of conditions have been reported. Physical examination of joints produces diagnostic suspicion, and joint paracentesis produces diagnostic certainty. In rheumatoid arthritis and other nonmalignant conditions, prompt diagnosis and proper therapy usually lead to complete recovery with preservation of joint function.
