A Year of Heart Transplants: An Ethical Valuation

Abstract

The heart transplant is a microcosm of the range of ethical problems in medicine and technology. It raises questions involving basic rights of society and of the individual.

It forces the issue of the definition of death. A contextual ethic model is suggested which sees ethical decisions best made in a context which has historical, futuristic and relational dimensions.
