Abstract

Skin damaged by inflammation is virtually defenseless. A minor skin disorder can rapidly become a disabling dermatitis through the use of topical medications or over-the-counter preparations containing irritating or sensitizing substances. Many patients with skin disease present a dermatitis caused more by injudicious treatment than by the original disorder.
