Abstract

Fetal blood loss during labor or delivery not only may endanger the fetus but also may threaten the life of a future child by sensitizing the mother. The fetus may bleed from the cord, from the placenta at delivery, from a placenta incised during cesarean section, into the mother's bloodstream, or into the circulation of a twin.
