Abstract
When a child has severe neutropenia from drugs, he becomes prey to infections. Because of lack of neutrophils, these infections often occur without a purulent reaction. Yet they can quickly spread and progress to bacteremia. To prevent complications, the physician should assume all fevers in such a child are due to infection, and should hospitalize him and start antibiotics.
