Abstract

Few diagnostic problems tax the clinician's skills more than fever of unknown origin. In this case, a middle-aged man had bouts of fever for nearly five months before a marrow biopsy disclosed the nature of his disease. Other signs included persistent pancytopenia, elevated lactic dehydrogenase, and finally jaundice.
