Abstract

When pus forms in a joint of an infant or young child, the physician must diagnose and treat quickly or the joint may be damaged beyond repair. The case study of a six week old girl with pneumococcal infection of the right hip illustrates the urgent problem of suppurative arthritis in the young. In another case appropriate therapy prevented damage from a possible hip infection in a three and one-half year old girl.
