Abstract

When a person dreams, his eyes move rapidly. This phenomenon, conjugate rapid eye movement, occurs about every 90 minutes during sleep and lasts from 15 to 60 minutes. During these episodes, breathing and heartbeats change, brain temperature goes up, postural muscle tone decreases, erection may occur, and the electroencephalogram exhibits a low-voltage fast pattern.
