How I Treat Alopecia Areata

, M.D.
Pages 262-263 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Emotional distress may cause alopecia areata; however, the etiology of this disease has not been definitely established. Whether any kind of treatment alters the natural process of the disease is questionable, but treatment with fluorinated corticosteroid cream and injections of triamcinolone acetonide have had some success. Recurrent attacks are common. Regrowth of hair is less frequent in children than in adults.
