Allergic Reaction to Insect Stings

, M.D.
Pages 190-195 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Serious reaction to insect stings increases in proportion to age and the number of stings; however, there is no relation between the number of stings and death. One sting may be fatal. Severe general reactions can occur without warning. Only careful evaluation of the severity of the reaction with appropriate skin testing and treatment may prevent fatalities. Hyposensitization is the most effective preventive.
