Obesity: Gluttony or Genes?

Abstract

Basically, obesity is caused by overeating. However, evidence suggests that obesity also may be caused by a genetically transmitted metabolic defect. The existing relationship between obesity and diabetes strengthens this possibility. Three metabolic defects common to both conditions support this concept.
