Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy

Abstract

Two of the methods used to treat diabetic retinopathy are retinal photocoagulation and pituitary ablation. The beneficial effects of photocoagulation are hard to assess. Pituitary surgery is beneficial in some patients but criteria for selection are rigid and there is no way to identify those who will not benefit. Good diabetic control is still the best approach.
