Treatment of Burns

, M.D.
Pages 138-145 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

In caring for the burned patient, immediate attention should be given to clearing the airway, starting intravenous fluids, and inserting a Foley catheter to monitor the urine output. Other injuries must be evaluated and treated as soon as possible. Failure to decompress a circumferential burn immediately or within 24 hours can result in the loss of a limb.
