Abstract

A number of operations designed to provide an additional source of blood supply to an ischemic myocardium are being evaluated by various surgical teams. Indirect procedures, including implantation of the internal mammary artery or splenic artery into the myocardium, are worthy of clinical trial. However, direct procedures, such as aortocoronary bypass using a saphenous vein graft, appear to hold the most promise.
