Determining Plasma and Urinary Corticosteroids

Normal Values and Clinical Pitfalls

Abstract

Plasma samples are far easier to obtain than 24 hour urine collections, but measurements of corticosteroids in the urine sample are more useful. Among the many reasons is the marked diurnal variation of plasma levels. Other factors influence the accuracy of both plasma and urine tests, but a good urine test will suffice for most clinical purposes.
