Specificity and Correlation of Tests for Hyperparathyroidism

, M.D.
Pages 170-177 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Hypercalcemia for which another cause cannot be found is still the best diagnostic evidence of hyperparathyroidism. However, the latter is compatible with intermittent normocalcemia, or calcium elevation may not occur because of a lack of vitamin D or magnesium. Tests reflecting parathyroid hyperfunction and autonomy are discussed.
