Abstract

Persons rescued from drowning who appear to be in good condition may become critically ill in a short time. Hospitalization is wise, especially if they have lost consciousness at any time. Aspiration is a common feature of near-drowning, and pneumonitis of rapid onset should be anticipated. Electrolyte changes in resuscitated victims are usually unimportant clinically.
