Abstract

A bacteriologic report indicates only the presence or absence of bacteria in a specimen. It does not suggest that the bacteria are pathogenic at the particular site or that they are not contaminants. The physician submitting the specimen must carefully evaluate the clinical significance of such a report before making a diagnosis.
