Abstract

It is never impossible to help the patient with metastatic disease. Many kinds of therapy are available for solitary or disseminated metastases, and more therapeutic advances are expected to occur in the near future. Physicians treating cancer patients should keep abreast of this enlarging armamentarium and should apply it with optimism, empathy and kindness. Some patients can be cured; in others, long periods of palliation can be achieved.
