Three tests of a single specimen of amniotic fluid plus ultrasonic measurement of fetal size are a combination that can be of great help in determining fetal maturity. Fetal monitoring during labor has yielded important information about the response of the fetal heart rate to uterine contractions and about fetal acidosis.
