Abstract

Most hip fractures in children are extracapsular. Accurate reduction is essential. Femoral shaft fractures can be treated by closed reduction or traction. Any form of traction demands daily thoughtful scrutiny by the physician. Vascular ischemia is not limited to the first 24 hours after traction is applied.
