Abstract
Chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities secondary to varices or thrombophlebitis is almost always preventable by proper treatment of the primary venous disease. Prevention of the more serious secondary disease assumes special importance in light of the many other serious physical and mental disorders commonly seen in elderly people.
