Ingrown Toenail: A Problem Among the Aged

, D.S.C.
Pages 199-202 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Among the aged, ingrown toenails are a vexing problem. Not only can such a nail be exquisitely painful, but it can become infected or ulcerated. When the nail is inverted, removing cellular debris and callous tissue with a probe usually suffices. However, when the nail “grows in,” driving a sliver of nail into the nail bed, incision of the nail body is required.
