Abstract

The elderly patient is likely to be quite concerned with prolonging a comfortable life for as long as possible. Thus nerve blocks can be valuable additions to comprehensive pain therapy. Even in conditions such as cardiovascular disorders, malignancy, and cerebrovascular accidents, nerve blocks can reduce pain, decrease the noxious stimulation from the lesion, and help break the cycle of learned pain behavior.
