Newer Concepts of Managing Asthmatic Patients

Second of Two Parts

Abstract

Asthma has many unexplained aspects, but a recent concept suggests that the basic abnormality in patients with this disease may be increased bronchial sensitivity due to beta-adrenergic blockade. The beta-adrenergic receptor probably is adenyl cyclase. Attention to antigen-antibody mechanisms remains the keystone of successful long-range management of extrinsic asthma.
