Acute Respiratory Failure in Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease and Its Treatment

Abstract

Controlled administration of oxygen is the cornerstone of “conservative” treatment for acute respiratory failure in patients with chronic obstructive lung disease. As little as a 4 to 10 percent increase in inspired oxygen concentration usually will raise arterial oxygen pressure to an acceptable level.
