Abstract

Back pain and facial pain are rarely fatal, but these common complaints may be disabling to the elderly patient, both somatically and psychologically. A variety of pathologic conditions may cause either type of pain, and nerve blocks are useful tools for differential diagnosis. Once the correct diagnosis is made, nerve blocks often can be used in combination with other therapeutic technics to manage pain and pain behavior.
