Abstract

Alpha1-antitrypsin is a normal component of human serum. Quantitative and qualitative variations from normal and methods of measurement are discussed. Severe deficiency is associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, making its diagnosis of practical benefit to the patient and his offspring.
