Abstract

Environmental stimuli that evoke emotional responses in an individual are determined largely by personal experience. Man learns which events, objects or signals have particular significance for him. The mechanisms of emotional expression, however, may represent organized, biologically determined patterns. Many clinical observations suggest that specific areas of the brain are concerned with emotion. Characteristic functions in various areas are important in generation and expression of emotions.
