Emotional Reactions to Hysterectomy

, M.D.
Pages 165-169 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

For many women, and for their husbands, hysterectomy seems to pose a threat to sexual identity. By far the most common emotional disturbance after hysterectomy is depression. A patient's calm acceptance of the need for this operation is no guarantee that emotional problems will not arise afterward.
