Value of Urinary Estriol Studies in Assessing Pregnancy

, M.D.
Pages 213-215 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Urinary estriol tests in pregnancy give useful information about the unborn child. If they indicate a fetus in trouble and if fetal size is adequate, it may be possible to intervene and save the baby. Excretion of estriol will be abnormal if the fetus is in jeopardy but will also be inexplicably abnormal throughout pregnancy in some women whose offspring appear to be unaffected.
