Abstract

A number of experiments are described which have important clinical and social implications. In one series, a group of subjects had to learn an instrumental behavior in order to avoid a noxious stimulus while another group were told beforehand how they could avoid it. Behavioral patterns and physiologic and endocrine changes were evaluated. In another experiment, venous pressure was measured in subjects exposed to verbal symbolic stimuli.
