How I Treat Ichthyosis Vulgaris

, M.D.
Pages 223-225 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

The genetic defect responsible for the skin disease known as ichthyosis vulgaris has not been identified. The dry, rough, scaly skin usually appears in the first year of life; the lesions may involute during the late teens. The goal of treatment is control rather than cure. A combination of topical therapy, personal hygiene, and atmospheric control can achieve improvement. Systemic therapy is unsatisfactory.
