Occult Mood in Musculoskeletal Diseases

Abstract

Psychophysiologic musculoskeletal reactions are common. Tightening of muscles secondary to emotional stress certainly can cause or aggravate pain. Many studies suggest a relationship between stress or personality characteristics and rheumatoid arthritis. Certain personality characteristics have been associated with gout, and it has been suggested that emotional factors may affect osteoarthritis.
