Pneumatoceles Following Aspiration of Hydrocarbons

, M.D. (EDITOR)
Pages 57-59 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Pneumatoceles develop after aspiration of hydrocarbons only slightly less often than after bacterial infection. The cysts may rupture during the acute phase of the illness, but in the vast majority of patients, roentgenographic follow-up shows that the lesions disappear within a few months without surgical intervention.
