Oral Changes in Metabolic Diseases

Abstract

Oral manifestations of metabolic diseases include dryness and burning of the mouth in diabetes, changes in dental structures in hyperparathyroidism, enamel hypoplasia in congenital hypoparathyroidism, mandibular enlargement in acromegaly, and early loss of deciduous teeth in hypophosphatasia. Gingivitis occurs in some women taking oral contraceptives and in a few women during pregnancy.
